Top left of those pictures you have the <strong>braised tofu<\/strong>, which is airy and light. The texture of it is much less dense than many tofu you may expect to eat around Taiwan, but the flavour that does exist is taken on by the liquid that it is cooked in. Another notable option is the <strong>pig blood cake<\/strong>, which is cooked really nicely. But, for those of you pig blood cake fans out there, you'll know that you're not really in this for the flavour more than you are for the texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If thick, chewy, fatty intestines are what you're all about then I must meet you and shake your hand. Then drag you here to taste some of the best in the city. Fatty, silky smooth yet chewy, and full of that unmistakable intestine flavour. Pair it with the chewy pig's ears and it's one that many will turn their nose up at. I love it. I always have, and I always will. I have written many posts about braised pork over rice (see below for just a handful of those mentions) so I do think that I am in a position to compare and contrast between bowls. This one goes on the <strong>fatty side of pork<\/strong>, with a <strong>deep <\/strong>and <strong>rich <\/strong>flavour. Your lips aren't coated with the rich pork fat that you may know (and love), but more so you enjoy the <strong>nuanced flavours<\/strong> of the liquid that it has been cooked in. It's good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Those <strong>thin rice noodles<\/strong> in the middle are one of the signatures of Moon Moon. They are cooked perfectly and lashed with a fragrant green onion oil that punches with flavour. I am not usually much of a fan of these types of rice noodles, but I did really enjoy these ones for the<strong> fragrance and expert cooking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On the far right is the <strong>deep-fried shallot-infused oil generously lashed on top of rice<\/strong>. The smell of deep-fried shallots is one that tends to fill the air at some of the day markets around Taipei, and it is intoxicating. That aroma is perfectly captured in this bowl, making it <strong>irresistible to me<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The picture at the bottom of this picture gallery is written on the menu as the (Fuji) mountain of<strong> whitebait atop rice<\/strong>. In reality, it is a bit of a mountain, but perhaps is termed the Fuji Mountain of whitebait because it's white in contrast to the 'mountain' below. Who cares, how does it taste though?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Top quality, must order, I can't believe I haven't eaten it here before!<\/strong> The whitebait brings a <strong>salty fishiness to the dish<\/strong>, but the rice underneath is stirred up with some<strong> soy<\/strong>, the same <strong>deep-fried shallot-infused oil that makes the other rice incredible from above<\/strong> and is then coated with the fragrant crunch of spring onions. The result is <strong>quick delivery of food<\/strong> that isn't governed by server availability. They are often<strong> pickled to preserve<\/strong> them for slightly longer, and the spice is a mellow one that builds and builds as you bite down. It's not going to knock your head off with spice, but it is going to bring this <strong>gentle hum to your mouth<\/strong> as you take in some of the chillies with the sweet <strong>Chinese cabbage<\/strong> and <strong>goji berries<\/strong>. The chicken is <strong>wonderfully slow-cooked <\/strong>and falls off the bone, allowing a certain decadence to be felt as you're eating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is my go-to soup at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moonmoonfood.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Moon Moon Food<\/span><\/a><\/strong> for the complexity of flavour and the mild spice that it brings with it. I can't fault anything that they offer to take out, honestly. To be clear, rice is never as good when it has been packaged up and left to steam further inside the take-out container. So I won't talk about the integrity of the rice itself, but the toppings are solid. The <strong>oysters are amazingly fresh<\/strong> and pop with every mouthful. That should provide an answer to this question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the best dish?<\/strong> The chilli and chicken soup was top dollar, for my money. I can't wait to go back and get it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are there other places like this?<\/strong> There are plenty of places that offer up good soup around Taipei.
